Personal Change

  • The Fear of Failure

For some of us, the fear of failure has had a toxic limiting influence over the choices that we make in our lives. We choose the conservative, cautious path – even though there may be times when our heart and soul scream out to take a risk and try something new.

I’m not talking here about being reckless, but rather having the courage to walk a path that is a very different one to that which you may have trodden in the past.

To risk the unfamiliar in the quest for experiencing more rewarding levels of satisfaction, enjoyment, discovery or prosperity. But to do so, may require you to contend with this inner demon that whispers to you that you won’t succeed in your goal and that you will make a fool of yourself if you try this new thing!

Does this sound at all familiar to you?

Well, here is a lovely, short clip from Brian Tracey (one of the great personal development gurus of our time), who shares some tips on how to overcome the fear of failure ….

  • The Power of Thought

Many of us who are engaged in personal development are seeking to become more aware of our thinking. With improved self-awareness comes greater capacity to exercise choice and self-control over our thoughts.

In this short clip, Brian Tracey reminds us of some simple principles around focusing our thoughts on what we want to achieve, and the importance of writing down our goals.

  • How To Win Friends & Influence People

One of the most popular personal development books ever written was by Dale Carnegie, some eighty years ago. This brief video clip summarises the nine timeless principles from the book. Tips include the importance of remembering and using people’s name when in conversation, the value of expressing sincere admiration and appreciation to others, and the disarming power of listening to people with your full attention.

  • Inspiration : Are you living true to your values?

A short inspirational clip, challenging us to reflect on whether we are living true to our values such as honesty, compassion, fortitude, fairness and respect.

Try and capture any thoughts, insights and feelings the clip may provoke – because that is where further opportunity for real self-growth may be. You may even like to watch it a few times, with pen and personal journal at the ready! Hope you enjoy it ….

  • Building Self-Confidence

A short clip featuring an experienced pychologist offering some methods for building self-confidence. One of the things she discusses is that people who lack self-confidence and self-esteem too often attempt to validate themselves by seeking to please other people. One sign of self-confidence  is no longer being overly concerned about what others may think of you.

  • Self-Esteem

I hope you enjoy some lovely quotes on the theme of self-esteem in this short clip …..

  • Building Healthy Self-Esteem

This short clip  briefly explains some of the dynamics around factors that have influenced your self-esteem, and offers some really good advice on ways of building a stronger foundation of self-esteem and inner security. As we discussed earlier, self-esteem is the fuel that drives assertive behaviour …….. when we feel good about who we are and we have self-respect, then we will not allow others to treat us with disrespect.
